At the end of the year, there is a Christmas air in Aubagne.
During Christmas, Aubagne comes alive with fairs, markets of nativity figurines, events, shows all in the pure tradition of Provence.
Aubagne, a town located between Marseille and Toulon, is considered the capital of Santon de Provence, the highly colorful clay figurines, typical of Provence, that are used in Nativity scenes. During Christmas, Aubagne is enlivened by fairs, markets of crib figurines, events, and shows all in the pure tradition of Provence.
The most important event is the Santon Fair(Marché aux Santons et à la Céramique). This fair takes place along the cours Maréchal Foch in the heart of Aubagne’s historic center. The event is dedicated to ceramics and specifically to Nativity figurines: the Santons de Provence. Local artisans-the santonniers-exhibit their small masterpieces of decorated clay. The fair hosts more than a score of stalls dedicated to the art of the village of Aubagne. This is an excellent opportunity to discover the latest creations of artisans and potters santonniers d’Aubagne and also to find an original gift.
