Rencontres d’Arles is a photography festival held annually between July and September in the small town of Arles, Provence, southern France. The festival was founded, in 1970, by photographer Lucien Clergue, writer Michel Tournier and historian Jean-Maurice Rouquette. It is the world’s leading photography festival. This event covers a wide range of contemporary works, with about 40 exhibitions scattered throughout the city’s historical and cultural venues.
