Come discover the culture of wine from a sommelier school in Avignon through the natural beauty of Isle-sur-la-Sourge and Fontaine-de-Vacluse. Visit vineyards and wineries as far as Aigues-Mortes and Arles. Taste the wines and enjoy the landscapes Provence has to offer.
Program
Day 1: Avignon
Enjoy a tour of Avignon’s historic center. Visit a wine shop that is the local landmark and a school that holds sommelier workshops year-round. Head to the Calvet Museum for an unusual experience. Follow the presentation of the museum, located in an 18th-century private residence, which contains artistic works. All while participating in a yoga class!
Visit the Palace of the Popes, the largest Gothic palace in the world, and Chateauneuf-du-Pape, a charming medieval town located 15 minutes from Avignon.
Day 2: Isle-sur-la-Sourge
Isle-sur-la-Souge is a verdant paradise crossed by the Sourge River. Today it is one of Europe’s central points for antiques. Visit the historic town center and head to La Filaventure, a museum of the senses.
Day 3: From Fontaine-de-Vacluse
The natural beauty of Fontaine-de-Vacluse, also given by the Sourge River-the most beautiful in the region-has inspired many artists and poets. The town has inspired writers such as Petrarch, Boccaccio, Chateaubriand, Frédéric Mistral, and René Char. Enjoy a guided tour of the village and admire the Moulin à Papier in Vallis Clausa. Visit a local vineyard and enjoy a tasting.
Day 4: Aigues-Mortes, Arles
Treat yourself to a guided tour of Aigues-Mortes, a fortified medieval town. Visit a nearby winery and enjoy a tasting. Later travel to Arles to visit a vineyard and taste the winery’s three wines. Enjoy a walk among the flora and fauna of the Camargue and learn about the culture of rice cultivation.
