Born in 1906, the French Grand Prix is the oldest GP in automotive history. Since then, it has been held as a car race valid for the Formula 1 World Championship from 1950 to 2008, with the exception of the 1955 edition, which was canceled due to the disastrous accident at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Since 2018, the race is back on the Formula 1 calendar, with the exception of the 2020 edition cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In August 2022, it was announced that the French Grand Prix was excluded from the 2023 calendar.
Until 2022, the Grand Prix was held at the Circuit Paul Ricard, located in Le Castellet, about 20 minutes from Toulon.
In the roll of honor of the French race are Michael Schumacher, holder of the record of the most victories (8), Alain Prost, Niki Lauda, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
