La citt\u00e0 conta circa 13.000 abitanti e si affaccia sulla riva sinistra del fiume Rodano, di fronte alla citt\u00e0 di Beaucaire.\\n\\nTarascona \u00e8 nota per il suo castello medioevale, costruito nel XV secolo dal re Renato d\u2019Angi\u00f2, detto il Re buono. Il castello \u00e8 uno dei meglio conservati della Francia e ospita al suo interno una collezione di arazzi e mobili d\u2019epoca. Il castello \u00e8 anche il luogo in cui lo scrittore Alphonse Daudet ambient\u00f2 le avventure di Tartarino di Tarascona, il suo personaggio pi\u00f9 famoso.\\n\\nTarascona ha anche una ricca tradizione religiosa e leggendaria, legata alla figura di Santa Marta, la sorella di Lazzaro e Maria Maddalena, che secondo la tradizione giunse in Provenza dopo la morte di Ges\u00f9. La chiesa collegiale di Santa Marta custodisce le sue reliquie e una statua lignea del XIII secolo che la raffigura con una catena e una bestia al guinzaglio. Si tratta della Tarasca, un mostro che infestava le paludi vicino alla citt\u00e0 e che fu domato dalla santa con la sua preghiera.\\n\\nOgni anno, a fine giugno, Tarascona celebra la sua patrona con una festa popolare in cui sfilano per le strade dei carri allegorici con delle riproduzioni della Tarasca e dei personaggi del romanzo di Daudet. La festa si conclude con una messa solenne e una processione con la statua di Santa Marta.\\n\\nTarascona offre anche altre attrazioni da visitare, come l\u2019abbazia di San Michele de Frigolet, situata nella zona della Montagnette, un\u2019area naturale protetta ricca di flora e fauna. L\u2019abbazia \u00e8 un complesso architettonico che risale al X secolo e che presenta diversi stili, dal romanico al neogotico. L\u2019abbazia \u00e8 famosa anche per la sua ciergeria, dove si producono candele profumate con le erbe della Provenza.\\n\\nTarascona \u00e8 una citt\u00e0 che merita una sosta per apprezzare il suo patrimonio storico, artistico e culturale, ma anche per gustare i suoi prodotti tipici, come il pane alle olive, il formaggio di capra e il vino rosso. The town has about 13,000 inhabitants and overlooks the left bank of the Rh\u00f4ne River, opposite the town of Beaucaire. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Tarascona is known for its <strong>medieval castle<\/strong>, built in the 15th century by King Ren\u00e9 d&#8217;Anjou, known as the Good King. The castle is one of the best preserved in France and houses a collection of tapestries and period furniture inside. The castle is also where writer <strong>Alphonse Daudet<\/strong> set the adventures of <strong>Tartarin of Tarascona<\/strong>, his most famous character.  <\/p>\n<p>Tarascona also has a rich religious and legendary tradition, linked to the figure of <strong>St. Martha<\/strong>, the sister of Lazarus and Mary Magdalene, who according to tradition came to <strong>Provence<\/strong> after the death of Jesus. The <strong>collegiate church of Saint Martha<\/strong> holds her relics and a 13th-century wooden statue depicting her with a chain and a beast on a leash. This is the <strong>Tarasca<\/strong>, a monster that infested the marshes near the town and was tamed by the saint with her prayers.  <\/p>\n<p>Every year in <strong>late June<\/strong>, Tarascona celebrates its patron saint with a <a href=\"https:\/\/itourprovenza.it\/en\/the-tarasca-festival\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>popular festival<\/strong><\/a> in which floats with reproductions of Tarasca and characters from Daudet&#8217;s novel parade through the streets. The festival ends with a solemn mass and a procession with the statue of St. Martha. <\/p>\n<p>Tarascona offers other attractions, such as the<strong>Abbey of St. Michael de Frigolet<\/strong>, located in the <strong>Montagnette<\/strong> area, a protected natural area rich in flora and fauna. The abbey is an architectural complex that dates back to the 10th century and features several styles, from Romanesque to neo-Gothic. The abbey is also famous for its ciergerie, where candles scented with herbs from Provence are made.  <\/p>\n<p>Tarascona is a town worth a stop to appreciate its historical, artistic, and cultural heritage, but also to taste its typical products, such as olive bread, goat cheese, and red wine.
