La Fête de la Véraison: a Provençal festival celebrating wine and local culture.

The festival consists of three days of performances and tastings.

La Fête de la Véraison is a medieval festival held annually in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Provence, to celebrate wine and the history of the village. The festival takes its name from the véraison, the time when the grapes begin to ripen and change color, marking the beginning of the harvest.

The festival was born in 1985 on an idea of Robert Tudella, a history and wine enthusiast. Since then, every first weekend in August, the town is transformed into a medieval village, with about 200 costumed actors enlivening the streets with performances of music, dance, theater, juggling, magic and fighting.

The festival also offers an opportunity to taste the famous wines of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, one of the most renowned in the Rhone Valley. A winemakers’ market brings together local producers who present their bottles and offer tastings to visitors. Another market replicates the atmosphere of a medieval village, with stalls selling crafts, gastronomy, and local products.

La Fête de la Véraison is an event that attracts about 30,000 people each year who are passionate about wine and culture. It is an event that enhances the historical and viticultural heritage of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a village that has been able to preserve its traditions and identity.
